The Longest Day (So Far)

Light crept into our Hotel Puerto Bus at just after 5:00 am waking the light-sensitive Sterling Guatemala Team. But were were in San Salvador, El Salvador! A twice-delayed flight from Houston brought us into this hilly capital city late enough to put us in the bus station hotel. This morning brought excitement and a free breakfast, (sure beats Motel 8!) which fortified us for the five-hour drive north into Chiquimula, Guatemala, our base of ministry for the next week and a half.

After another meal, this time at 2:30 pm, we got a chance to better meet our hosts, Rev. Hoseas and Jane Cordero, pastors of La Autentica Iglesia de la Palabra de Vida. The Authentic Word of Life Church. These dedicated and hardworking people and their three children quickly captured our hearts.

Our ministry began in earnest when we met the "Youth" Group of twenty to thirty-year-olds. After some brief games so we could get to know each other, we divided into four teams and went up and down the narrow streets handing out invitation cards for the upcoming Sunday services. Despite the language barrier, we were able to show kindness and followed the lead of our co-workers.

We finished off the day at 9:00 pm with yet another meal, this time salchichas (hot dogs)at our host families upstairs apartment. It was a long, but positive day and we knew God has prepared our way to serve.

All for today!
DB (Dr. Best)
